Duplicates and certificates from Russia
Getting Russian documents and certificates while you are abroad
If you live abroad and need a Russian document — a duplicate birth or marriage certificate, a criminal record certificate, an archive certificate — we can obtain it for you under a power of attorney. A duplicate civil registry document costs from 5 850 ₽, from 5 working days. A criminal record certificate costs from 5 000 ₽ (35 calendar days) to 44 500 ₽ (5 working days). We can then apostille, translate and send the documents to you.

What we can obtain
- Civil registry duplicates. Repeat birth, marriage, divorce, death and name change certificates, and certificates confirming a registry record. A duplicate is also the usual solution when the original is lost, worn, or on an old Soviet form that will not be apostilled.
- Criminal record certificates for residence permits, citizenship, visas and employment abroad.
- Archive certificates — for example confirming work history, residence, study or the content of old records.
- Certificate of Good Standing from the Ministry of Health of Russia for doctors registering with a foreign medical regulator.
- FNS, FSSP and SFR certificates — tax status, absence of enforcement proceedings, pension and social insurance records.
- Duplicate diplomas issued in Moscow and Moscow Oblast.
How the work is done
- Tell us what you need. Send scans of what you have (an old certificate, your passport) and tell us which country and authority the document is for.
- Power of attorney. We send you the wording. Sign it at a Russian consulate, or with a local notary and then get an apostille on it (or legalization, if your country is not in the Hague Convention). A foreign power of attorney is then translated into Russian and the translation notarized in Saint Petersburg.
- Request. We submit the request to the civil registry office, archive or state body and collect the document.
- Apostille or legalization. If the document is going abroad, we get the apostille or legalization next.
- Translation. We arrange a certified translation, or a sworn translation in the destination country.
- Delivery. We send the documents to you by courier: the courier's rate plus 500 ₽ for arranging it.

What we need from you
- A scan of your Russian passport or international passport (and foreign passport, if relevant).
- Any details you have of the record: date and place of registration, names of parents or spouse, the old certificate if available.
- The original power of attorney, sent to us by courier.
- For the Certificate of Good Standing: details of your Russian medical education and work, and the requirements of the foreign regulator.
Common problems
- Power of attorney does not cover the task. If it does not mention obtaining the specific document, or apostilling it, the authority may refuse. Use our wording.
- Foreign power of attorney without an apostille. A power of attorney from a foreign notary is not valid in Russia without an apostille or legalization and a translation.
- Wrong region. Duplicates are issued based on where the record is held. Older records may sit in a regional archive rather than at the local office.
- Unrealistic deadlines. Some state bodies take at least a month. Plan this into your visa or residence appointments.
FAQ
Do I need a power of attorney?
For most documents, yes: civil registry offices, archives and state bodies release personal documents only to you or to your representative. You can sign the power of attorney at a Russian consulate or with a local notary; a foreign power of attorney needs an apostille and a translation into Russian. We send you the wording.
How much is a criminal record certificate?
It depends on the time: 5 000 ₽ for 35 calendar days, up to 44 500 ₽ for 5 working days. With an apostille, prices range from 10 500 ₽ to 50 000 ₽. The full table is below.
Can you get a document from a region outside Saint Petersburg?
Yes. We request duplicates and certificates from other regions of Russia, including Northwest Russia, Moscow and Moscow Oblast. Documents from CIS and other countries are priced on request, from 14 working days plus postage.
What is a Certificate of Good Standing for doctors?
It is a document from the Ministry of Health of Russia confirming a doctor's professional standing, which foreign medical regulators ask for when a doctor registers abroad. We obtain it for 11 100 ₽; it takes at least one month.
