How notarization works in Russia. Russia has no sworn translators. The translator signs the translation in front of a notary, and the notary certifies the authenticity of the translator's signature (Article 80 of the Fundamentals of Legislation on Notaries). The notary does not check the translation itself. A bilingual certificate — the notary's text in Russian and in the target language — helps when the translation is used abroad and the official needs to understand what was certified.

Apostille on the translation. If the destination country wants an apostille on the translation itself, the Ministry of Justice puts it on the notarized translation: 6 000 ₽. See Apostille.

Sworn and accredited translators abroad

Some countries accept only translations made by their own sworn or accredited translators. We work with such translators and arrange the translation for you.

Language and country Standard one-page document
Italian, Bulgarian (accredited translator) from 5 500 ₽
German (sworn translator) from 7 900 ₽
French (sworn translator) from 9 500 ₽
Turkish (sworn translator) from 10 500 ₽
Spanish (sworn translator) from 12 600 ₽
Czech (sworn translator) from 12 600 ₽

The usual order is: apostille on the Russian document first, then the sworn translation of the document together with the apostille. For Cyprus, see our guide on sworn translation for Cyprus.

How we work

If you are in Saint Petersburg

  1. Send a photo or scan by WhatsApp, Telegram or the form on this page.
  2. The manager confirms the price and time and sends a contract and an invoice with a QR code.
  3. The translator translates, and we send you a draft to check names and dates.
  4. We notarize the translation and you collect it at our office at Ploshchad Alexandra Nevskogo metro, or we send it by courier.

If you are abroad

The process is the same — you only need a scan. After notarization we send the translation to your country by courier: the courier's rate plus 500 ₽ for arranging it. If the translation also needs an apostille, we get it before sending.

Names and spelling

We spell names as in your international passport. If you do not have one, or the spelling differs between documents, tell us before we start: changing a name after notarization means a new notarization.

Common mistakes

  • Translation before the apostille. If the document needs an apostille, it should usually be issued first, so that the apostille is translated too.
  • A Russian notarized translation where a sworn one is required. Italy, Spain, Germany, France and other countries may require their own translators. Check before ordering.
  • Different spelling of names across documents in one application.
  • No bilingual certificate when the translation goes abroad: the foreign official cannot read the Russian notarial text.

FAQ

Do you need the original document?

No. A clear scan or photo is enough. The translation is bound to a copy of the document, and the notary certifies the translator's signature. If the receiving authority wants the translation bound to the original or to a notarized copy, tell us in advance: a notarized copy is 400 ₽ per page.

How much does a translation of a passport or certificate cost?

A standard one-page document usually fits into one translation page. From Russian into English this is 580 ₽ for the translation and 1 400 ₽ for notarization. The manager gives the exact total from a photo.

How fast can I get it?

Notarization is done the next working day, or the same day for 2 400 ₽. Volumes over 8–10 pages a day carry an urgency surcharge: from 30% for English, German, French, Spanish and Italian, from 40% for other languages.

Will a Russian notarized translation be accepted in my country?

Many countries accept it, usually with an apostille on the translation. Some — Italy, Spain, Germany, France and others — often want a translation by their own sworn or accredited translator. Check with the receiving authority, or ask us.

What is the difference between a notarized translation and one with the company seal?

In a notarized translation the notary certifies the translator's signature; state bodies, consulates and courts accept it. The company seal (500 ₽) confirms that we made the translation; it is enough for many private organisations and banks, but not for state bodies.
